Bangabondhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad (UK) Holds Protest at British Parliament Against False ICT Court Cases in Bangladesh

The Bangabondhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad (UK) organized a large-scale protest and sit-in demonstration today, 11 November (Tuesday), in front of the British Parliament at Westminster Square, condemning what they described as false, fabricated and politically motivated cases filed by the illegal Yunus-led government and its so-called Kangaroo Court (ICT) against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other pro-liberation political leaders in Bangladesh.

Hundreds of barristers, solicitors, advocates and other legal professionals currently practicing in the United Kingdom participated in the demonstration, which ran from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. The participants carried placards questioning the legitimacy and credibility of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) and denouncing its recent proceedings.

Speakers at the rally criticized the ICT, asserting that the tribunal has failed to maintain international legal standards and that the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act of 1973, under which the court operates, was never intended to prosecute offenses alleged to have occurred in 2024. They clarified that the 1973 law was enacted solely to prosecute war crimes and crimes against humanity committed between 26 March and 16 December 1971 by the Pakistani army and their local collaborators—including members of Razakar, Al-Badr, Al-Shams, Shanti Committee, Jamaat-e-Islami, Nezame Islami, Muslim League, and associated student and militant groups.

The lawyers expressed deep concern and condemnation over what they described as the unconstitutional and illegitimate actions of the current regime, which they accused of aligning itself with Jamaat-e-Islami and war criminals to target pro-liberation and democratic political forces. According to the speakers, the ongoing trial against Sheikh Hasina is being used as a political weapon rather than a legal process.

They demanded the immediate withdrawal of all false and politically motivated cases and called for an end to the misuse of the ICT for partisan purposes. The participants further alleged that the judges and prosecutors currently associated with the tribunal are largely aligned with Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP politics, raising serious doubts about the possibility of fair justice.

Speakers reminded that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already declared her willingness to face any legitimate international court, but emphasized that the Yunus-led administration continues to circumvent lawful and democratic processes.

The protest concluded with a strong call for the international community to denounce the ongoing judicial farce and to stand in solidarity with the pro-liberation democratic forces of Bangladesh.

The event was coordinated under the leadership of Barrister Monirul Islam and Barrister Sonjay Kumar Roy, with participation from a wide range of Bangladeshi-origin legal professionals practicing across the United Kingdom.
