A protest rally was held in protest of MP Rupa Huq’s statement in the British Parliament to reject the All Party Parliament report on the persecution of minorities and human rights violations in Bangladesh.
Miss Rupa Huq, the elected MP of Bangladeshi origin for Ealing and Acton, strongly criticised the APPG report on Bangladesh in the Parliament Point of Order on 16 January. She said it is part of a sinister plan to undermine the interim government of Bangladesh.
After Rupa Huq raised allegations in Parliament that the report’s information was inaccurate, it was suspended for review. However, the extreme reality is that more people have been attacked than the information published in the APPG report. We have been observing with deep concern for a long time that Rupa Huq has maintained good relations with the Islamist camp in Bangladesh. She has been assisting the opposition forces of the Awami League in various ways on various issues, the latest example of which is her meeting with the leader of the anti-liberation war criminal party of Bangladesh, Jamaat-e-Islam, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, in a meeting in the British Parliament.
A member of the UK parliament spoke for the suspension of the entire report without checking the oppressed minorities of Bangladesh and based only on the information provided by various representatives of the ruling interim government of Bangladesh.
On the other hand, the Bangladesh government has admitted responsibility for the persecution of minorities, killings, burning of houses, and lootings. The oppressed minority community of Bangladesh was hoping for justice from the international community. The UK always stands for humanity, for the oppressed people. However, that possibility has been blocked due to the suspension of the APPG report. Rupa Huq has behaved inhumanely towards the persecuted minorities of Bangladesh by taking a biased stance towards the anti-humanity Islamist terrorist group.
We demand the withdrawal of this biased statement of Rupa Huq and her resignation. The following spoke on behalf of the organising committee at the meeting: Amrit Das, Abhishek Shekhar Jiku, Robin Das, Asima De, Sujoy Swaroop Shyam Sujit Das, journalists Nazrul Islam Nishit, Neelkanth. Ajit Das thanked everyone on behalf of the organisers and said that a memorandum will be submitted to the Prime Minister next week.
