Bangla media journalists in London staged a human chain protest on Tuesday evening demanding justice for the deaths of veteran journalist-columnist **Bibhuranjan Sarkar** and journalist **Mohammad Asaduzzaman Tuhin**. The demonstration was held at the Shaheed Minar in Altab Ali Park, East London.
The protest was organized by *Satyabani* editor **Syed Anas Pasha**, *Brick Lane* editor **Juyel Raaj *, *Swadesh-Bidesh* editor **Batirul Haque Sardar**, and journalist **Shah Mostafizur Rahman Belal**, who also conducted the event.
Speakers at the rally blamed the **interim government’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam** for the killings and alleged his involvement in what they described as a campaign of intimidation and repression against journalists in Bangladesh. They also demanded the release of senior journalists, including **Shahriar Kabir, Mozammel Babu, Farzana Rupa, Shakil Ahmed, and Shyamal Dutta**, who are currently in detention.
Sarkar’s body was recovered from the Meghna River in Munshiganj 36 hours after he went missing. Questions remain over whether his death was murder or suicide. Before disappearing, he had emailed a final piece of writing to a local media outlet, in which he described personal struggles and made several allegations.
Among those addressing the protest were veteran journalist and former Bangladesh Mission press minister **Abu Musa Hasan**, senior journalist **Motiar Chowdhury**, UK Bangla Reporters Unity’s former president **Dr. Ansar Ahmed Ullah**, freedom fighter **Foyzur Rahman Khan**, journalist **Sushanta Das Gupta**, human rights activist **Pushpita Gupta**, columnist **Shah Rumi Haque**, and poet-journalist **Syed Hilal Saif**, alongside others.
On behalf of the organizers, Juyel Raaj thanked participants and said:
> “We stood here out of conscience, not expectation. History will record our protest and hold this government accountable.”
